Romanian Cuisine
While Indian cuisine is acclaimed for plant-based dishes, Romania also offers diverse vegan recipes. With 30% of the year dedicated to Lent, Romanians have developed a wide range of flavorful dishes to enjoy during this period.
What is lent?
Lent is a Christian Orthodox religious practice during which individuals undergo physical and spiritual cleansing in preparation for an important religious event. The physical cleansing involves plant-based eating and giving up alcohol. The spiritual cleansing involves practicing charity, abstaining from sinful habits such as gossiping and being mean. The more important the religious event, the longer the Lent. Thus, both Christmas and Easter have Lent periods of around 40 days each.
